Airport traffic up 3 percent in August

Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) increased 3.7 percent for August in comparison with the same month last year.* During the month, 68,237 passengers flew in or out of the county-operated airport, compared to 65,781 passengers last August.

For the 12 months ending Aug. 30, total passenger traffic at DAB increased 2.7 percent with 718,371 passengers traveling through the facility last year compared to 737,920 passengers this year.

“August marks the seventh straight month of passenger traffic increases over 2017,” said Airport Director Rick Karl. “Capacity, load factors and passenger traffic all increased in August over last year. Even though the ongoing taxiway project impacted some of the anticipated capacity growth, load factors were above average for the month. Increased demand, flights and larger aircraft all contributed to the rise in passenger traffic.”

Karl added, “With the recent announcement of Sunwing Airlines starting non-stop service from Toronto, and the growth of American Airlines and Delta, we anticipate demand to continue to increase throughout 2018 and into 2019.”
