For the 12 months ending Aug. 30, total passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) remained flat, with 737,890 passengers traveling through the county-operated airport last year compared to 737,453 passengers this year.
Passenger traffic at DAB decreased 13.4% for August in comparison with the same month last year.* During the month, 59,103 passengers flew in or out of the facility compared to 68,103 passengers last August.
"When JetBlue ceased operations in January, we lost 12% of our passenger traffic market share. Delta’s load factor also decreased in August from 98% last year to 95% this year. The loss in passenger traffic from JetBlue and the slight decrease in Delta’s load factor were the main reasons for the decrease in August,” said Airport Director Rick Karl. “American Airline’s passenger traffic increased again in August, just as it has every month this year."
Karl added: "We will see similar trends for the remainder of 2019. American and Delta will continue to grow this year, but we will see the impacts from the loss in market share for the remaining months. American Airlines and Delta are both at record highs for passenger traffic in Daytona Beach for 2019. American has grown over 20% this year alone, and Delta has seen an increase of 500% in the last 10 years."
