Daytona Beach International Airport readies for race fans

The DAYTONA 500 is days away, and the racing experience has already taken off at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB). Race car fans and other airport visitors flying into Daytona Beach will have plenty of selfie opportunities including a Daytona International Speedway pace car on the airport’s first floor lobby, a large Daytona 500 floor decal, tire art on the bag belt and a checkered flag themed crosswalk.

A new addition this year is the #43 truck driven by Daniel Dye, which is part of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. The #43 will be on display at the airport Feb. 17 and 18.

“It’s fun to witness the excitement of the passengers when they walk through the airport during our destination’s largest event of the year,” said Joanne Magley, the airport’s manager of air service, marketing & customer experience.

“Just like with other major events around the country, like the World Series or the Superbowl, travelers get to experience the excitement of NASCAR’s biggest race soon after they get off of the plane, and again when they step outside the terminal and hear the roar of race cars,” said Magley.

Due to the Daytona 500 event on Sunday, Feb. 19, there will be traffic congestion surrounding the airport prior to the start of the race. Departing passengers should allow for extra time to get to the airport and should avoid International Speedway Boulevard between Clyde Morris Boulevard and I-95.
