Daytona Beach International Airport Achieves Milestone: Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Passenger Numbers in 2023

Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) for 2023 has surpassed passenger traffic for 2019—the last year of commercial passenger traffic before the pandemic.

In 2023, 719,775 passengers flew in or out of DAB compared to 713,287 in 2019 – an increase of 6,488 passengers. Overall capacity in 2023 was up 25.1% versus 2022 and up 7.1% versus 2019.

DAB welcomed a new airline, ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines, in June of 2023. The airport is also served by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, which have provided service for 44 years and 15 years, respectively.

“In the years since the pandemic shuttered commercial air service, we’ve used 2019 as a benchmark for normal passenger traffic levels, so it’s satisfying to see our numbers have officially recovered,” said Joanne Magley, Airport Manager for Air Service, Marketing & Customer Experience.

The airlines also continue to invest in additional frequencies and seasonal service. Last year, American Airlines resumed seasonal, non-stop service to Washington, D.C., and Dallas Fort-Worth from February through April and to Philadelphia from April through August. Delta Air Lines added non-stop, special event flights from Detroit for the Daytona 500 weekend.

“Our air service development team continues to nurture the relationships with our existing airlines and potential new carriers, and we are confident our passenger traffic numbers will continue to rise,” said Magley.

* The monthly passenger traffic data obtained by the airport from the airlines is unofficial. Airline revenue passenger data can be obtained through the U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics. It is usually reported three months after completion.
